ASA Virtual Seminar: Maintaining Green Infrastructure

Keynote Speaker: Ryan Winston, PhD, PE, Ohio State University   

Proper maintenance is critical to the efficient and effective function of all infrastructure, including green infrastructure. The topic of maintenance is becoming more prevalent as
Alabama developers and communities move toward adopting natural materials and natural processes to deliver infrastructure services. Furthermore, despite the environmental and economic benefits of green infrastructure, operations and maintenance has been repeatedly raised as a technical barrier to the adoption of green infrastructure.

Dr. Ryan Winston is one of the nation’s leading authorities on green infrastructure.  He is an Assistant Professor at the Ohio State University with appointments in the Departments of Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering and Civil, Environmental, and Geodetic Engineering.  He is also a core faculty member of the Ohio State University Sustainability Institute.  He holds PhD and MS degrees in Biological and Agricultural Engineering from North Carolina State University and a BS in Agricultural and Biological Engineering from the University of Florida.  Dr. Winston has conducted many workshops on green infrastructure for various audiences throughout the nation.  ASA is honored to host Dr. Winston so that he can provide his insights on the maintenance of green infrastructure. 

Prior to Dr. Winston’s talk, ADEM will give an overview of post-construction stormwater management maintenance requirements contained in MS4 permits issued to municipalities, counties, and other entities throughout Alabama.
